Abstract. Lay CS, Agustina I, Astuti P, Hertiani T. 2023. Cytotoxic screening of endophytic fungi associated with Catharanthus roseus. Biodiversitas 24: 2716-2722. Despite the advancements in cancer therapy, there is still a need for new anticancer agents. Due to tremendous range chemical compounds that create, they have become crucial component current drug development process. The aim this study was evaluate cytotoxic potential roseus (L.) G.Don collected from Yogyakarta, Indonesia. All fungal EtOAc extracts were tested against three human cell lines, HeLa, T47D, MCF-7, and Vero lines. isolate identified using molecular techniques. results showed total seven obtained different parts C. Only one fungus (SCR 3) best activitiy towards all lines used, especially MCF-7 line (IC50 130.90 ?g/mL, Selectivity Index=11.42). findings LC-HRMS also revealed several exciting such as genistein D-(-)-Mannitol. extract SCR 3 (Aspergillus sp.) induced apoptosis but did not affect cycle. This suggests may be source secondary metabolites can function

Endophytic filamentous fungi from a Catharanthus roseus: Identification and its hydrolytic enzymes.

This paper reported on the various filamentous fungi strains that were isolated from a wild grown Catharanthus roseus. Based on the morphological characteristics and molecular technique through a Polymerase Chain Reaction and DNA sequencing method using internal transcribed spacer (ITS), these fungi had been identified as a Colletotrichum sp., Macrophomina phaseolina, Nigrospora sphaerica and F...

Endophytic fungi associated with Australian orchids

Australia is rich in orchid flora with over 1000 native species currently recorded. A significant proportion of Australia’s terrestrial orchids are critically endangered, endangered or threatened. Threats to many orchid species include habitat destruction, degradation and fragmentation from increased urbanisation, overgrazing, altered fire regimes and unfortunately, excessive collecting by orch...

Leishmanicidal, trypanocidal, and cytotoxic activities of endophytic fungi associated with bioactive plants in Brazil

One hundred and twenty-one isolates of endophytic fungi were recovered from leaves of the bioactive Brazilian plant species Ageratum myriadenia , Palicourea tetraphylla , Piptadenia adiantoides, and Trixis vauthieri. All fungal isolates were cultivated in liquid media and crude extracts were obtained with ethyl acetate. The crude extracts were tested in bioassay panels using Leishmania amazonen...

5-Methyltryptophan resistant cells of Catharanthus roseus.

Several cell lines resistant to 5-methyltryptophan were selected from wild type cells of different Catharanthus roseus suspension cultures. The resistant cells had up to 30 times the normal levels of free tryptophan. Despite the increased pool size of tryptophan anthranilate synthetase activity of resistant cells was as sensitive to inhibition by L-tryptophan as wild type cells. The overproduct...

The seco-iridoid pathway from Catharanthus roseus

The (seco)iridoids and their derivatives, the monoterpenoid indole alkaloids (MIAs), form two large families of plant-derived bioactive compounds with a wide spectrum of high-value pharmacological and insect-repellent activities. Vinblastine and vincristine, MIAs used as anticancer drugs, are produced by Catharanthus roseus in extremely low levels, leading to high market prices and poor availab...
